Spotted: Cambridge Satchel Company is a Fashion Week Highlight

It’s possible that the  fluorescent hues from the Cambridge Satchel Company have seared themselves into our retinas. Although our cones and rods are permanently etched, we can still see well enough to tell you that these statement-making bags have become an instant fashion week trend.

We snapped our first sighting at the Lia Sophia suite (which played host not only to eye-catching baubles, but also celebs like Juiliana Rancic) where it was dressed down with polka dots and pencil skirts. Dani Stahl, the designer of Lia Sophia’s runway collections, was enamored with the pink satchel and proclaimed that she needed one immediately. Later, we shot a dapper gentleman with the Fluro green–which he paired with a suit and bow tie–right outside the Empire Hotel on our way back from the Carlos Miele runway show. And even Rachel Zoe’s ex-associate Brad Goreski was seen sporting the yellow fluro at Jill Stuart’s show.

The Brit company prides itself on its bespoke service (every bag is made-to-order and shipped from the UK), so don’t expect to just pick one up next time you’re window shopping. You’ll need to get to the brand’s online shop and wait up to a month for it to come to your mailbox. The company’s more traditional models might be a little Oliver Twist for some, but what we’ve spotted are the satchels that got a twist with the addition of highlighter-bright colors. The Fluro collection, which we’ve spotted on guys and girls from Lincoln Center to SoHo, is anything but a school-uniform staple.

It’s available in four sizes and every single one’s made an appearance at the shows, from the small 11-inch to the laptop-friendly 15-incher. We’re not surprised this easy accessory is having its time in the spotlight (or practically creating its own aura). Both practical and punchy, it’s an easy way to get in on the neon trend that was so prevalent at Alexander Wang and Thakoon’s runway shows. The only one we’ve yet to see is the orange, but with a few days left of Mercedez-Benz Fashion Week we’re certain it’ll make an appearance.
