Proenza Schouler for MAC
Following in the footsteps of DSquared, Ungaro, Lily Pulitzer, Rodarte and more, Proenza Schouler will be teaming with MAC Cosmetics for a capsule collection set to debut April 2014. Sound a long way off? It is, but with the holidays just around the corner and the 2014 not far behind them, the collection will be hitting stores before you know it. The Proenza Schouler for MAC collection will include color cosmetics and a special edition brush, but the part that Proenza’s coterie of fans and beauty collectors alike will be falling for is the limited-edition packaging, which will boast different prints from past Proenza Schouler collections.
“We wanted to create something that the Proenza Schouler woman could relate to off the runway,” said Proenza Schouler’s Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez, “and the MAC brand is so deeply rooted in fashion that we knew they would understand our vision.”
Previously, the duo teamed with Shiseido and makeup maestro Dick Page for a limited-edition hydro-powder eye shadow called Proenza Schouler blue, which debuted on the runway and subsequently sold out at Shiseido counters in 2008. So while the MAC collab isn’t the boys’ first foray into the world of beauty, it is the first full-on collection that they’ll be releasing. While details are still hush hush, we can report that the collection will include ombré face powders, lipsticks, MAC’s cult-favorite Pro Longwear eye liners and lip pencils, a few nail lacquers, and special edition powder brush.
“I have always respected Jack and Lazaro’s keen vision and point of view. We’ve worked together backstage creating beauty looks for their runway shows for many years and it has been fascinating to me watching them evolve,” said James Gager, Creative Director and Senior Vice President, MAC Cosmetics. “They have a very particular perspective on their makeup look each season. It has been a great experience collaborating with them to bring their beauty vision off the runway to our customers.”
Proenza Schouler’s signature makeup look on the runway is usually something along the lines of a hyperreal no-makeup makeup look, so we’re expecting a collection of universally flattering neutrals with Proenza’s requisite pops of color. But, as any fan of the brand knows, Jack and Laz love keeping their fans guessing, so brace yourself to expect the unexpected.
