It was only a matter of time before Tatcha’s Vicki Tsai expanded beyond skincare, and her first color cosmetics release is definitely in keeping with her brand’s ethos. Tatcha’s Silk Lipstick in Kyoto Red is the same shade of vermillion found on the lips of geisha, Japan’s shrines and landmarks. Naturally, the bold hue’s formula is infused with skincare ingredients to keep your lips looking great long after you’ve removed your lip color.

While Tatcha has been focused on skincare since its debut, the red lipstick is the brand’s very first foray into color. First created at the insistence of makeup artist Daniel Martin, Vicki formulated the shade specifically for Chloë Sevigny to wear during last year’s Met Ball. Tsai decided to bring the color into the Tatcha lineup, offering the geisha’s signature vermillion lip to girls that want a little bit of tradition with their signature lip color.

While the color itself is based in tradition, Tatcha’s lipstick is thoroughly modern. The bullet is diamond cut and designed to be used without a liner. Formulated to stay all day and provide deep pigment with a single swipe, it’s also packed with hydrating ingredients and beneficial silk extracts to nourish lips. Kyoto Red is also designed to be universally flattering thanks to it’s hue and finish, which is powder smooth and moisturizing without looking feathering or fading.

Tatcha’s Silk Lipstick in Kyoto Red ($55) will be available for pre-sale at www.tatcha.com on February 15.
