Hello Kitty 40th Anniversary Collection

Sanrio’s leading lady Hello Kitty is celebrating her 40th anniversary this year. And in addition to a huge exhibition at Los Angeles’ Geffen Contemporary at MOCA and, for the first time, Hello Kitty Con, a convention that will be taking place at various venues throughout Los Angeles, Sephora is celebrating the occasion with a limited-edition collection of beauty buys that’ll have the most die-hard Hello Kitty fans swarming their local stores.

“Hello Kitty is unique in the sense that she has evolved over time,” says Yuko Yamaguchi, head designer of Hello Kitty since 1980. “Children inherit Hello Kitty from their parents, and I am thankful for Hello Kitty fans who have supported her for three generations.”

Hello Kitty has had a collection of color cosmetics, fragrance and beauty accessories at Sephora for a few years now, but Yamaguchi worked with Sephora for a special collection to celebrate the 40th anniversary. The 10-piece, limited-edition line features a palette of shimmering eye shadows ($52), a curated beauty diary that brings together lipstick, hair mascara, eye liners, a cosmetic bag and a figurine based on the original 1974 Hello Kitty design ($49) and more. Nail art junkies are sure to fall for a nail kit ($39) which makes creating kawaii kitty designs super easy and even the most jaded beauty fans won’t be able to resist a trio of apple-shaped lip balms ($20). And as for accessories, you’ll be able to snatch up blinged-out versions of Sephora bestsellers, including a hand mirror, fragrance and more. But the pièce de résistance? That would be a Hello Kitty shaped cocktail ring containing a solid perfume. It’s something that fans of all ages are sure to covet.
