To fête the book launch of City of Style, a well-edited exploration of both the styles and influencers that collectively define the city’s fashion ethos, former Los Angeles Times style and beauty writer Melissa Magsaysay chose one of the city’s high temples of style: Phillip Lim’s Robertson Boulevard boutique. Inside the white-walled boutique (designed by the teams at Leong Leong Architecture, PARA Project and Giancarlo Valle) partygoers celebrated alongside Lim’s spring and summer collections, set against the store’s signature spiked walls.
Guests included everyone from reality television star-cum-designer Whitney Port and celebrity stylist Nicole Chavez, (both featured in Magsaysay’s book) to actresses Kristen Bell and Minka Kelly — both wearing candy-colored frocks from Lim’s summer collection.
There were so many partygoers packed into the store that it looked more like a fashion week after-party than a book event — especially with fellow fashion insiders and hometown heroes Kevan Hall, Emily Current and Meritt Elliot in attendance. And Magsaysay’s book, stacked alongside Lim’s accessories, was tucked in the hands of every guest like one of Lim’s uber-popular 31 minutes zippered clutches. A photo booth drew in all the fashion and film mavens, including Bell who was seen stepping inside with a St. Patrick’s Day fascinator delicately placed atop her head. With Maysaysay’s celebration of Los Angeles’ sidewalks-as-catwalks tome, it was the best way to fête such a fashionable release!
