You can count on California girl Trina Turk to add a dash of her hometown’s influence every season. From the decadence of Downtown’s art scene to laid-back Palm Springs style, there’s a little bit of Cali no matter where she takes inspiration. But for the first time ever, she’s drawing inspiration from the azure waters of the Mediterranean — not the Pacific. For spring 2016, Turk took her girls (and her legion of super-loyal fans) to Capri, Cannes and the Cote d’Azur. Is your passport up to date? Don’t worry, because while you sort that out, let this breezy, bright collection handle that case of wanderlust.

It’s not a stretch. If you think about it, Brigitte Bardot and co. could have easily been lounging poolside sipping proesecco à la Slim Aarons. Just swap out the Amalfi Coast for the desert oasis and you’re set. So the prints were a’plenty in Turk’s collection, and so was that seaside flair. Fans of Turk’s patterns will have plenty to choose from, including bright florals and nautical stripes.

“I’ve been to Capri a few times over the years,” Turk told Vogue, “and we realized we’d never done a Mediterranean-inspired collection.”

The shorefront umbrellas lent themselves to the nautical pieces, which were striped to match Cannes and St. Tropez’s iconic beaches. The brighter pieces would be perfect for locales further south, such as Cap Ferrat, where you’d definitely need a cover up that could double as a cocktail frock. Throw in some crochet (you can’t take the boho out of a California-based designer, trust us) for a little bit of texture and whimsy and you’ve got Turk’s idea of a globetrotting wardrobe. Caftans got remixed with flowing lengths and thin spaghetti straps, offering up a new take on the seaside favorite. Even the classic tunic got an update with fresh lengths and lighter fabrications. One poppy print was even sourced from Instagram — it doesn’t get more modern than that.

Back when jumpsuits weren’t available from every designer, Turk spearheaded them. This season, she’s offering up a slew in addition to flares, culottes and flowing palazzo options. Pants are a huge category for the designer, even though she may be known for her resort-ready staples. In fact, Turk said many of the culottes and wide-leg pants were re-issues from her first few seasons and she’s glad to have them back in her rotation.

“This season, we thought: Let’s just be more Trina Turk than ever,” she added.

The brand also just celebrated its 20th anniversary, though there’s not so much a feeling of nostalgia as a bright outlook for the seasons to come. Turk’s always going to have her calling cards, but the way she’s adding new and fresh options every season gives plenty for both her fans and to those new to the brand. Globetrotters will appreciate this collection for its packable practicality and her homegirls will still have plenty to choose from for their errands and events back at home. Turk’s unabashedly optimistic and it shows: every piece makes us want to pack our bags and go wherever she’s headed.
