Rachel Zoe lives and dies by Los Angeles and its signature style. Some fans (and critics) trace the entire ingenue look — big glasses, faux-fur gilets, and stacks and stacks of bold jewelry — back to her days of styling Hollywood’s up-and-comers. And while the City of Angels is in her DNA, Zoe often showed her eponymous fashion line in New York. Blame the fashion calendar and blame pressure from the industry for that move, but she’s back on her home turf for spring 2018.
The very L.A. collection, inspired by Slim Aarons and presented at the Sunset Tower, included a major milestone, too. In addition to her line of ready-to-wear and accessories, Zoe debuted a bridal capsule collection, The Wedding Edit, imbued with her Midas touch.
“Showing here feels like home,” Zoe said in a statement. “I’ve always been inspired by the intimate salon-style presentations of Chanel and Dior dining with friends and enjoying the beautiful designs and the glamour of it all.”
Fans of Zoe know that she’s always included high-watt, red carpet-ready dresses in her collection, but the super stylist insists that she’s always had bridal in the back of her mind. Mixed into those gowns and sleek ’70s-inspired suits, Zoe says that she’d unintentionally added touches of bridal to every collection.
“Since the launch of my first collection, I’ve included white in every season…probably with the subconscious intention to dress brides,” she said. “It’s that euphoric moment that’s always inspired me.”
Zoe famously wed her husband, Rodger Berman, in custom Isaac Mizrahi, but she notes that her collection will have a wide breadth, not just things for the fashion-obsessed. Handmade flowers; architectural, feminine ruffles; bright-white sequins; intricate crystal embellishments; and airy chiffon will all feature in the capsule, which will be available for pre-order starting today and ship in February 2018.
The main collection seems to take a few nods from bridal, with a decidedly femme lean. Lace and palm prints played together on wear-everywhere staples, but a standout denim tuxedo done in blue chambray was a borrowed-from-the-boys piece that had many in attendance perking up. Of course, her boho fans will have plenty to pine after, too. Even though she’s shown during NYFW in the past, New York City just can’t take L.A. out of Zoe.
